Beaches

Dictaean Cave & Lassithi Plateau

The Diktaean cave is one of the most spectacular wonders of Crete. Legend states it as the birth place of Zeus and central site for his worship. You can combine this with a visit to the Lassithi Plateau, a high endorheic plateau, located in the Lasithi regional unit in eastern Crete. This highland’s vast expanse of green fields is interspersed with almond trees and orchards, representing a rural facet of Crete.

Spinalonga

Arkadi monastery

The Arkadi Monastery, a large fortified complex built during Venetian rule, represents one of the most renowned monasteries in Crete due to the Holocaust that occurred in 1866. This significant part Cretan history earned Arkadi a title as a European Freedom Monument by UNESCO. 

Kera monastery

Only eight kilometers south of Aghios Nikolaos, stands the byzantine church of Panagia Kera. Museums 

First and foremost, the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion covers a period of over 5,000 years and features some truly impressive collections. Due to its proximity to the Palace of Knossos, you will see numerous exhibits from the Minoan civilization there. Of course, there are archaeological museums in Agios Nikolaos, Chania and Rethymno too.

Knossos Palace

The Palace of Knossos is the most notable palace in Crete. King Minos reportedly lived in the Palace of Knossos. It is therefore interconnected with the thriving Minoan civilization that was born on the island and developed an impressive maritime force.
